Fiber cement boards and calcium silicate boards are both Class A non-combustible building materials, widely used for partition walls, ceilings and fireproof cladding. Though similar in appearance, they differ greatly in composition, performance and application, and are only partially interchangeable.
Taking cement as the main substrate and pressed with mineral fibers, fiber cement boards feature high density, superior strength, strong impact resistance and excellent weather and water resistance. They are suitable for harsh environments such as exterior walls, basements, outdoor areas and LOFT floor bases, maintaining stable performance without deformation or pulverization.
With silicate and calcium materials as the core components, calcium silicate boards are lightweight, easy to cut and cost-effective. They are ideal for indoor dry or slightly humid environments including interior partitions, ceilings and duct fireproof wrapping. However, they are relatively brittle and prone to deformation if exposed to long-term water immersion or outdoor sunlight.
The two boards can be used interchangeably only for conventional indoor dry partitions and ceilings. They cannot be replaced arbitrarily in formal projects. Fiber cement boards are mandatory for outdoor, high-humidity and load-bearing scenarios, while calcium silicate boards are the preferred cost-effective choice for standard indoor decoration to avoid construction and acceptance risks.
