Color Change of Cement Board After Outdoor Installation

After outdoor installation, cement boards are likely to change color, mainly related to material characteristics and outdoor environment. The trend and reasons for the change can be briefly summarized as follows:

The core change is to gradually transition from light gray to dark gray or dark gray at the factory, as cement will continue to hydrate (absorb moisture from the air to complete the reaction) and carbonize (alkaline components combine with carbon dioxide), which will deepen the color of the board and stabilize after 1-3 months.

If the environment is humid and heavily polluted, there may also be local color differences (uneven water absorption) and mold spots (algae/mold growth in high temperature and high humidity, appearing green or black); Long term exposure to sunlight can damage the organic components of fiber-reinforced cement boards, causing them to become lighter and lose their shine.

To control changes, outdoor specific high-density cement boards can be selected, soaked and pre hydrated before installation, or coated with weather resistant protective agents; After installation, use a high-pressure water gun to clean stains in a timely manner, and regularly apply protective agents to reduce color difference and pollution.
